North Carolina regulators are sizing up a plan allowing Duke Energy to charge consumers a little more as it increases energy efficiency and demand reduction.

The state Utilities Commission holds a hearing Tuesday in Raleigh on how the Charlotte-based electricity company would make up for lost revenues. The hearing comes a day after Duke Energy, the Environmental Defense Fund, and the Utilities Commission’s consumer advocates unveiled a settlement that includes a $400,000 bonus if the company increases energy savings by more than one percent in any year.
